Shawntal Mallory – Class of 1993
Shawntal Mallory is a native of Omaha, Nebraska, and was educated at Creighton University (BA’97) and Creighton University School of Law (JD’00). A licensed attorney since 2006, Shawntal specializes in juvenile, family and employment law, and has proudly protected and represented the interests of hundreds of youth and families in juvenile court proceedings and adoptions. Currently, Shawntal serves as Executive Director of the Nebraska Legal Diversity Council (NLDC), a nonprofit organization aiming to increase and support diversity in the practice of law in Nebraska. Shawntal also serves as Adjunct Professor at Creighton Law & Special Consulting Professor for the Juvenile Justice Legal Clinic (JJLC). A published and featured speaker, trainer, coach and consultant, Shawntal is certified in Nonprofit Executive Leadership and Leading Equity & Inclusion in Organizations through Northwestern University. Her consulting practice, The Esquire Group, is highly sought-after for legal, leadership, and inclusion matters.
Throughout her career, Shawntal has held significant executive leadership positions, including Chief Professional Development Officer and General Counsel for Omaha Home for Boys and Statewide Administrator for Community Services at Lutheran Family Services. In these roles, she oversaw multi-million-dollar budgets, managed large teams, led organizational strategy, and implemented initiatives that strengthened leadership development, workplace culture, and community impact. She also maintains a private law practice through The Esquire Group, representing clients in employment and family law matters.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Shawntal has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to civic and community leadership. She serves/ has served on the boards of Inclusive Communities, Lamp Rynearson, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Merit Commission, Jesuit Academy, Radius, Girls Inc., and Voices for Children. She is also the President of the Creighton University National Black Alumni Advisory Board and a co-founder of Nebraska African American Human Resources Professionals. Through these leadership roles, she has consistently worked to expand opportunities and strengthen organizations throughout the community. Shawntal is a regional and local leader within Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, and serves in multiple ministries at Salem Baptist Church including the Music and Fine Arts Ministry.
In addition to being honored as a Burke High School 2026 Hall of Fame Inductee, Shawntal’s impact has been recognized through numerous other honors, including Nebraska’s 50 Over 50 Award for 2026, the 2026 Frankie Muse Freeman Award from Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Omaha Alumnae Chapter’s 2025 Delta of the Year, the 2023 Judge Elizabeth D. Pittman Outstanding Alumni Award, the 2021 Nebraska State Bar Association Diversity Award recipient, and the 2010 Omaha Jaycees Ten Outstanding Young Omahans Award recipient. Despite her many achievements, Shawntal remains grounded in service, faith, and family. Shawntal is a devoted mother who considers raising her two sons, Darrick and Damari (Burke High Alumni- Class of 2024), her absolute greatest accomplishment in life.
