Alisha Ford Shelton – Class of 1999
Alisha Shelton is a licensed independent mental health practitioner and licensed professional counselor with a rich history of leadership and advocacy. As the former CEO of Believe and Breathe Counseling, Alisha led the organization in providing free mental health services during the pandemic, demonstrating her unwavering commitment to community well-being.
A dedicated leader within the Omaha Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta since 2008, Alisha has held numerous roles, including President, where she has driven initiatives that empower women and advance social justice. Her political career includes being a 2020 candidate for Nebraska U.S. Senate and a 2022 candidate for Congress in Nebraska’s Congressional District 2. Alisha’s contributions to the Nebraska Democratic Party were significant, with past service as a delegate and member of both the audit and finance committees. She continues to share her IVF story to petition for legislation changes. Which resulted in a public meeting with the Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff and an invitation to the White House.
In addition to her political and community work, Alisha serves on various boards in Omaha, focusing on mental health and youth development. She is recognized for her expertise in fundraising, governance, succession planning, and fiduciary oversight, consistently bringing strategic insight to every role.
Alisha’s academic credentials include a Bachelor of Science in Psychology Pre-Medicine from Xavier University of Louisiana and two Masters of Science degrees from Bellevue University in Human Services and Clinical Counseling.
Beyond her professional achievements, Alisha is a devoted wife to Vincent and a loving mother to their spirited daughter, Ameela. Together, they cherish family time, whether dancing, traveling, or enjoying playful moments with their two dogs, Charlie and Snoopy. Alisha’s life passions center on equality, healing, and creating environments where individuals and teams can thrive.
